As a person who has spent my life at the intersection of creativity and innovation, I have watched our nation's businesses and society stagnate. What do I mean by stagnate? We have become a nation of followers. We have been taught, largely through our educational system to perfect the already known. In school we try to master the standardized tests. The top test takers get the high profile jobs and help perfect the processes already in place. Meanwhile, in a country built on ingenuity and hard work, the creative thinkers and innovators are dwindling or being muzzled.
Commonplace thinking would lead you to believe some people are highly creative, while others have little to know creativity. That same thinking would also lead you to believe that some people are born to be leaders and others to follow. I am one that has dispelled those myths. Even science has proved that we are all creative and innovative. Great things start from creative ideas and become real with innovation.
I have competed with the super educated and brightest people in my business and prevailed. I owe it all to my dyslexia. My learning disability forced me to look at things differently. While others were trying to perfect the current solution to a problem I was looking for other ways to solve the original problem. While they we following I was creating, innovating, and leading.
I have been one of the top sales people at large, mid-sized, and start-up firms. I have sold billions of dollars of goods and have built multiple successful and unsuccessful entities. I have seen the right ways to do things and the wrong way to do things.
Besides my success in selling and building my own businesses I also keynote speak, train, and consult on being extraordinary through creativity, innovation, and leadership. I believe that ordinary thwarts success, while out-of-the-ordinary changes the world.
